A police spokesperson said the Dallas Police Departmentresponded at about 7:40 p.m. on Aug. 26, 2025, to the 13800 block of 4 Hills Lane after reports that a man was threatening household members with a knife and threatening to harm himself.
The spokesperson said officers retreated when the man charged them and he then barricaded himself inside the home. SWAT was called and "tried to use numerous techniques to get him outside," the spokesperson said, and officers also found that the man had "an active felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon family violence."
According to the spokesperson, SWAT officers entered the house and attempted to use less-than-lethal force to take the suspect into custody. "At that time the suspect charged the SWAT officers with the knife and he was then shot, he was then pronounced dead on the scene," the spokesperson said. The briefing stated that no officers were injured and no other people were injured.
The Dallas Police Special Investigation Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation, and the oversight board and the county district attorneys office were notified and will conduct reviews, the spokesperson said. The spokesperson also explained that body-worn camera footage had to be taken to headquarters for downloading because of technical difficulties that prevented on-scene review. "More information will be released in the coming days," the spokesperson added.
The department did not provide additional details about the suspects identity, the exact sequence of tactics used by SWAT, or whether any less-than-lethal measures struck the suspect before the shooting. The Special Investigation Unit and the county district attorneys office will determine whether further public disclosures or charges will follow.
