Salt Lake City Board of Canvassers unanimously certifies Nov. 4, 2025 municipal election results

"There were 60,346 active registered voters in Salt Lake City. 20,305 ballots cast with a total voter turnout of 33.6%," Reynolds said, noting the city participated in the ranked-choice voting pilot and that the numbers reflect the top candidates in the final phase.
The canvass included the following outcomes announced by the recorder: Victoria Petro was declared the duly elected District 1 council member with 1,664 votes to Steven Otterstrom's 1,546; Chris Wharton was declared the duly elected District 3 council member with 3,621 votes (Blake McClary 1,986; Liddy Huntsman Hernandez 1,484); Erica Carlson was declared the duly elected District 5 council member with 4,042 votes (Amy Hawkins 1,913; Vance Hansen 173); and Sarah Young, running unopposed in District 7, received 3,650 votes and was declared duly elected.
Before the canvass vote, the board approved the meeting minutes of Dec. 5, 2023. According to the record, the motion to approve the minutes was moved by Council Member Pui and seconded by Council Member Mano; three ‘‘aye’’ responses were recorded and the minutes were approved.
On the canvass resolution, a board member identified in the record as Council Member Mano moved to adopt the proposed resolution "certifying, accepting, and approving the results of the municipal general election for City Council Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 held in Salt Lake City, Utah on 11/04/2025," and Council Member Dugan seconded the motion. The presiding official called the vote and said the motion "passes unanimously." The transcript does not record a numeric roll-call tally for that vote.
Keith Reynolds told the board that "newly elected officials will be provided certificates of election following the adoption of the board of canvassers resolution certifying the 2025 municipal election results."
