The Herriman City Council revised the Thomas Butterfield Community Service Scholarship policy during its Nov. 12 consent‑agenda discussion, reducing and clarifying the judging committee composition. Councilmember Sherry said she supported the change because the scholarship is city‑sponsored and should be judged by city representatives; she proposed removing school representatives and cutting the committee to two councilmembers and one staff member. The motion to approve the policy as amended passed on voice votes.
Councilmembers also discussed eligibility windows and confirmed that the policy has long allowed applicants who graduated within the last five years to apply, which council members said supports applicants who enter service after non‑traditional paths such as military service or missions.
