Herriman City approved a design contract to begin planning a roughly 50‑acre athletic complex intended to host regional tournaments and community recreation, city engineer Bryce Terry said. "We received 4 proposals back from firms that specialize" in large athletic projects, Terry said, noting the proposals ranged from about $400,000 to $2,300,000 and the scoring committee recommended the highest‑scoring (and lowest‑cost) firm.
John LaFollette, communications manager, said the council had tentatively budgeted about $1 million for design work and that the selected team will provide concept planning through full design so the city can go out to bid for construction. Terry said the project description includes nearly 15 athletic fields, restroom and support buildings and potential additional recreational facilities.
Terry said staff vetted qualifications and recent project experience, including a tour of a comparable facility (Epic Sports Park in Provo), to ensure the selected team could deliver within the city's needs. He said council approved the contract at last night's meeting and staff will finalize and execute the agreement so design work can begin.
