Herriman advises caution as fireworks dates approach; Town Days shows were canceled for safety

Herriman officials used the podcast to remind residents about fireworks rules and to announce that the city’s Town Days displays were canceled because of unsafe winds.
Podcast host John LaFollette said state law sets legal discharge dates: two days before and one day after Independence Day and Pioneer Day. He and Councilmember Sherry Orin said the city coordinates with Unified Fire Authority to publish a map showing places where fireworks discharge is always illegal and that the city will post rules and the map at harriman.gov/fireworks.
LaFollette asked residents to be mindful of conditions and to call emergency dispatch at (801) 840-4000 if they see illegal or dangerous activity. "If you see something, please say something," he said, adding the police and fire departments cannot be everywhere and that reporting can help prevent fires.
LaFollette also explained Town Days fireworks scheduled for the prior weekend were canceled both Friday and Saturday after high winds made the shows unsafe. He said the city does not own the fireworks — they are provided by a vendor — and that there is no rescheduled date. "So enjoy other city's fireworks on the July 4," he said.
Next steps: the city will publish its fireworks map and guidance online and asked residents to follow safety guidance and report illegal discharge to emergency dispatch.
