Herriman says it will acquire land for Gina Road and apply short-term dust treatment

Herriman Mayor Mary Palmer said the city has instructed staff to begin acquiring property tied to Gina Road and that short-term dust mitigation work will happen this year while officials pursue a permanent solution. "We are gonna begin acquiring the property," Palmer said on the Herriminology podcast on June 13.

John LaFollette, Herriman's communications manager, said residents near the unpaved western section of Gina Road will receive flyers about the work and that crews will lay down magnesium chloride "which is very common gravel road treatment that helps kinda firm up the road and ... reduce dust." The treatment is intended as an interim measure "until some more permanent options can be done down the road," he said.

Gina Road, described on the podcast as the last public road in Herriman that remains unpaved, has faced delays tied to property acquisition. Palmer said staff had been directed to take the next step toward acquisition and that city leaders had "cobbled some money together" to advance the project, though she did not provide a construction schedule or a final cost estimate.

The city did not announce a firm timeline for final paving. LaFollette said the short-term treatment would occur "within a couple weeks" and that residents should expect door flyers explaining the work and safety information.
