ADR endorses renovation at 10 Walnut, recommends council review

Roberta, the town planning staff, told the Architectural Design Review (ADR) committee that the applicant at 10 Walnut Avenue is seeking the ADR’s recommendation to the town council for design review and a nonconformity permit to rehabilitate a landscape area exceeding 2,500 square feet and to improve the existing deck, pool area and pool equipment shed.
Pete Peterson, the project’s landscape architect, described the proposal as largely restorative: replacing failing hardscape and impervious paving with pervious pavers, repairing and replacing the deck, resetting existing brick paving below the deck and constructing a pool equipment shed in the existing shed footprint. Peterson said the design emphasizes modest landscaping and “put[ting] some doors on” the pool shed to improve neighbor privacy.
Committee members asked a few technical questions and otherwise expressed support. One ADR member said the project “looks pretty straightforward,” and multiple members offered their support during the discussion. Staff and the design team did not identify any unresolved code or safety issues during the presentation.
The ADR directed staff to include the committee’s comments in the recommendation packet to the town council; staff will carry the ADR’s support and any minor conditions forward when the item goes to council.
