Provo Council OKs interlocal agreement with Utah County for State Street multiuse trail

The Provo City Council voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement with Utah County to fund the next phase of the State Street multiuse trail between 900 South and 300 South.
Vern Keesler, the city’s traffic manager, described the project as completing the east-side trail connection from the section already finished to Slate Canyon Drive up to 300 South. He told the council the Mountainland Association of Governments and Utah County are providing funds and that UDOT has verbally committed, subject to the transportation commission, a few hundred thousand dollars to help pay for new curb and gutter work.
Councilors asked whether the project would affect on-street parking, drive access or street crown and were told parking would not be affected but driveway approaches and curb-and-gutter work would be part of the project. Keesler said ADA ramps and improved curb design are included.
Public commenters who use the corridor, including Aaron Wheatley and Ethan Unclesby, urged approval for safety reasons, describing feeling unsafe biking on the existing road. The council then approved the interlocal agreement on a 7–0 vote.
Councilors said the funding partnership would let the city finish the multiuse path while maintaining existing parking and improving accessibility.
