Mayor Winn told the Tooele City Council at its Dec. 17 work meeting that Smith's Marketplace’s recent grand opening in Tooele was exceptionally well attended and that the store has been generous to the community. "They just do so much for communities and they have already donated to the food bank," the mayor said, noting Smith's gave $500 checks to the local cheerleaders and band during the opening and followed up with additional donations.
The mayor said the opening was the largest grand opening in the United States for any Kroger banner and that local shoppers, and visitors from outside the valley, turned out in force. Council members and staff thanked the mayor and welcomed the new business as an economic and community partner.
The mayor also noted related community events and ribbon cuttings in recent weeks, and council members used their reports to highlight other local business openings and upcoming public events.
