Federal Highway official highlights USDOT support and urges multiyear transportation bill at Cow Creek reopening

At the Cow Creek Bridge reopening, a Federal Highway Administration representative from Washington, D.C., described FHWA’s role in documenting damage, providing technical assistance and helping to accelerate construction through staging, accelerated concrete curing techniques and the use of precast cylinder piles.
The representative said the USDOT will seek to help fund reconstruction via an emergency relief reimbursement request and said the event illustrates the need for a predictable, long-term federal transportation bill. "We must ensure predictable and reliable funding by enacting a long term multiyear bill that will help states respond to emergency events like the destruction of Cow Creek Bridge," the representative said.
The remarks included an acknowledgement of the recent passing of chairman Bruce Bugg and framed the project as an example of federal, state and private-sector collaboration that could be replicated with better long-term funding.
