Herriman City Council voted to approve Resolution R‑18‑2025, entering a cooperative agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to accept up to $19,000,000 to fund design and construction of a roughly half‑mile, five‑lane extension of Herriman Boulevard through the Olympia area.
Planner/staff Blake explained that UDOT removed the yellow section of the originally scoped U‑111 project and is transferring the associated funding to the city because timing and development in Olympia meant the work would better align under local management. The city will follow UDOT design and construction standards, use a firm from UDOT’s pool for construction management and utilize the Olympia PID for financing and delivery.
Project details presented to the council included three signalized intersections (one built by UDOT, two by the city under the agreement), a five‑lane cross section, and a jurisdictional transfer process after construction is complete. Staff told the council they are confident the $19,000,000 allocation will cover required scope given UDOT rules for materials testing and increased inspection.
Councilor Steve moved to approve the resolution; Jared seconded. The council voted in favor with recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried. The approval authorizes execution of the cooperative agreement and directs staff to proceed with the design and interlocal arrangements necessary to manage the work through the Olympia PID.
