Texas wins 13th straight Governor's Cup; Abbott credits low taxes, infrastructure and business partnerships

Site Selection magazine presented Governor Greg Abbott with Texas’s thirteenth consecutive Governor’s Cup after the publication recorded 1,368 qualified economic development projects in 2024, the magazine’s editor said.
"We logged 1,368 projects for 2024," Mark Aaron, editor emeritus of Site Selection magazine, said while presenting the award. "That's 14 more than last year." Governor Greg Abbott accepted the award "on behalf of the hardworking people and businesses across our great state," he said.
Why it matters: the award is intended to recognize the state that logs the most qualified economic development projects in a year. Abbott told the audience the tally reflects a combination of state policy and local efforts — low taxes, a regulatory environment that "moves at the speed of business," and investments in transportation, water and the power grid.
Abbott named private-sector projects as examples of recent growth, citing companies that expanded or relocated operations in Texas. "Businesses like Delta Electronics, which expanded their advanced manufacturing operations in Plano with about 1,500 new jobs; US Foods, which built a new food distribution warehouse in Buda; Crystal Window And Door, which moved their corporate headquarter and manufacturing facility to Mansfield; and Bell Textron, which opened a new advanced manufacturing facility in Fort Worth," he said.
Abbott also pointed to a new five-year economic development strategic plan introduced two days earlier and thanked state and local economic development professionals, Secretary of State Jane Nelson and Adriana Cruz by name for their roles in the effort.
The ceremony closed with Abbott thanking Site Selection and attendees and looking forward to the magazine’s March event next year.
