Roosevelt's fire chief presented annual department statistics to the City Council, reporting that the department responded to 93 calls last year, up from 63 the previous high year.
"The last time we came in and said, wow. We had a busy year. The last year was 63 calls. This year, we had a 93," the chief said, noting a 21 percent increase in total calls citywide and much larger percentage changes in some neighboring jurisdictions. He told the council the department's average response time inside the city remains under 10 minutes, measured from pager activation to arrival on scene.
The chief described deployment details: frontline pumpers and brush trucks had different utilization rates, and a newer brush truck was used more frequently than the older unit. He also noted that some crews assisted on multi-day incidents in neighboring areas, which increased man-hours for the department.
Council members asked about false-alarm surcharges discussed previously; the chief said one habitual location had been invoiced and the vendor had agreed to replace a sensor, and that calls from that site subsided after the repair. The chief also reviewed internal attendance and training benchmarks (75 percent training attendance; 40 percent call participation) and said staff contact procedures are in place when standards are not met.
Council thanked the department for its service and for the chief's update. Staff noted the chief's 25 years of service during manager remarks later in the meeting.
