Mayor seeks $3M for civic campus as part of Green Loop; vows park equity

Mayor Erin Mendenhall told the State of the City audience the city is advancing the Green Loop concept to redesign downtown streets around people and green space and proposed a civic campus design that would connect Library Square to Washington Square Park.
She said construction design funding for the Green Loop's first phase was recently approved by the City Council and that in her upcoming budget she will ask for $3,000,000 to design and begin the civic campus component, followed by a capital campaign to leverage private-sector support.
Mendenhall emphasized park access equity: she said pickelball courts were once concentrated on the East Side and by the end of 2025 the West Side "will have twice as many courts as the East," and she announced that the first phase of Glendale Regional Park will open this summer. She also said the city will develop an integrated park camera security program at high-volume parks and expand rapid-intervention teams to respond to reports of trash, camping and other livability issues via the MySLC app.
The mayor framed the civic campus as a year-round asset for festivals and daily downtown life and linked these investments to downtown population growth and recent deals to keep professional sports franchises downtown. The funding ask moves to the City Council for consideration as part of the mayor's budget proposal.
