Mayor Palmer told the Herrimanology podcast that the state legislative session begins Tuesday and runs for 45 days, and he described how city officials monitor bills that could affect local residents and operations.
“The session the legislative session starts Tuesday morning, 45 days,” Palmer said. He explained that bills are assigned to committees where they can be modified, killed or advanced; House-introduced bills proceed through the House and Senate bills through the Senate, and both chambers must approve language before it reaches final passage.
Palmer said Herriman staff and officials are tracking proposals that could touch housing, infrastructure, energy and higher education and that the city maintains relationships with local representatives to advocate for residents’ interests. LaFollette said the podcast will provide selective updates about bills likely to affect city services or residents rather than exhaustive daily lists.
No specific bill language or numbered proposals were cited in the discussion; Palmer said the city has not yet seen significant critical bill language but is watching developments closely and will report on items of local relevance.
