Herriman launches water-usage dashboard with leak alerts to help residents track consumption

Herriman City this month launched a new online water-usage dashboard that lets residents link their water account to view historical consumption and set automated alerts aimed at detecting leaks.

John LaFollette, Herriman’s communications manager, described the dashboard as a conservation and consumer-protection tool that can show usage by hour for newer homes and provide text or email alerts when consumption exceeds user-set thresholds. “This is gonna be, I think, a powerful tool,” Mayor Palmer said, noting that seeing usage patterns can help residents identify unusually high use before a bill arrives.

LaFollette said residents must enter their account number and the account name exactly as they appear on their water bill and match the address format listed on the bill to avoid setup errors. He directed listeners to the city page (herriman.gov/waterdashboard) for setup instructions and noted the service is provided through a third-party vendor.

Officials said the dashboard was intended both to improve transparency about water use and to help households avoid surprise charges from undetected sprinkler or household leaks. The city encouraged residents to create an account and, for newer properties, to enable the leak-detection notifications.

LaFollette said the city had intended to launch the feature earlier but completed it in January and will continue to add instructions and support materials on the website.
