Council approves partial vacation of 13th Street to allow adjoining parcels to develop

Marysville — The City Council unanimously approved a resolution to partially vacate and decertify a segment of 13th Street in the Cuddle Creek area, a move staff said will allow two adjacent property owners to combine their parcels for potential development.
Sean Quain told the council the portion of roadway holds no meaningful connectivity or utility service and that similar streets in the area have been vacated in the past. He said the parcel's east side borders a Meijer gas station and the other side abuts St. Clair Boulevard (referred to in the packet as St. Clair Ditch), and that planning commission voted to recommend approval.
Councilmember Dunne moved the resolution; Councilmember Shirkey supported it. The council asked whether the parcels had frontage on Gratiot; staff confirmed they do and noted several parcels in the vicinity are for sale. The resolution passed by unanimous roll-call vote.
The resolution will allow the two landowners to combine parcels and seek development; specific development plans were not presented at the meeting.
