Marysville — The City Council on Feb. 9 authorized BMJ Engineers and Surveyors, Inc. to provide engineering services for a seawall replacement and repair project, approving a letter of authorization in the amount of $80,000.
City Manager Quinton Bishop said the work is connected to a $750,000 legislative-directed grant secured through Representative Joe Pavlov's office and that the $80,000 fee represents routine construction-engineering and contract-administration services required for the project. "This is for the $750,000 seawall Replacement and Repair Project that we are awarded through a legislative directed grant through Representative Joe Pavlov's office," Bishop said.
Council discussed schedule and location: Bishop said design and geotechnical work will occupy the first half of the year with construction expected in the summer or third/fourth quarter, and that the work is along the perimeter of the water treatment plant facing the St. Clair River. Councilmember Shirkey asked whether the $80,000 covers the entire construction engineering portion; Bishop replied that the authorization is intended to cover the entirety of the job's construction engineering.
Councilmember Badley moved the authorization; Mayor Pro Tem Winston seconded. At roll call the measure passed 5–1; Councilmember Shirkey voted No.
Minutes show the city expects to solicit competitive bids for some engineering and contracting work later in the year and that the authorization with BMJ is needed to begin design and construction engineering under the grant.
