State Representative Joe Pablo addressed the Marysville City Council during the 'citizens to be heard' portion on Oct. 13, updating the council about the recently passed state budget and local priorities.
Pablo described the budget as "1,000 pages" and said it contains funding for Marysville's water plant. He told the council the project would be handled on a reimbursement basis rather than receiving an up-front payment: "They're not just gonna hand you the $750,000. It's gonna be on a reimbursement basis," Pablo said. He thanked city staff and local advocates for their work on the appropriation.
Pablo also described two bills considered by the legislature related to budget process and pay stoppage if a budget is not balanced, noting partisan differences on those measures. He closed by asking for prayers and saying he would speak the following day at the State Board of Education in opposition to proposed changes that would shift certain curriculum decisions away from local control and parental consultation.
The council responded by thanking Pablo and congratulating staff and representatives for the appropriations outcome. The council later referenced the seawall appropriation and praised the city's presentation to the Appropriations Committee that helped secure funding.
