Board approves first reading of IKF cleanup; says graduation credit minimum unchanged

Diane (speaker 16) presented a cleanup amendment to board policy IKF and said the redline edits are intended to simplify the policy language without changing the district graduation requirement.

"This change in the red lines does not change our graduation requirements at all," Diane said, noting the district maintains a 24.5-credit graduation standard and is removing obsolete grandfathered course lists. She explained the change also removes a long enumerated list of courses that could substitute for the district's personal financial literacy requirement because the state is adopting that requirement and additional substitute courses will be vetted by the curriculum department.

Trustees asked a technical question about a struck title on page 3; Diane said the title was retained on the first page and the clerical edit would be fixed when the document is converted in Word. After brief discussion, a motion for first reading was made, seconded and approved on a roll-call vote with the trustees recorded as voting yes.

The vote advances IKF as a first reading; final adoption will follow the district's policy-adoption schedule and any required public-notice steps.
