Mariposa County sits as Water Agency, elects chair and records advisory-board vacancies

The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors temporarily convened as the Mariposa County Water Agency on Jan. 6. Supervisors selected Supervisor Poe as the agency’s chair for 2026 and retained Supervisor Toso as vice chair by unanimous voice votes.
During the water-agency session the board accepted resignations from Art Baggett (District 1 representative) and Michael Martin (member at-large) from the Water Agency Advisory Board. Clerk of the Board Daniel Banchu told the public there are currently five vacancies on the advisory body (Districts 1, 2, 5 and two at-large positions) and the committee cannot meet until enough members are appointed to constitute a quorum.
Public Works Director Shannon Hansen and senior planner Ben Gover briefed the board on the advisory board’s recent work, noting the primary focus in recent years has been a feasibility study connected to MID settlement funds and a drought-resiliency plan. Hansen said the county has hired a consultant to finish a feasibility study and that the drought resiliency plan is near completion; these efforts would be brought to the Water Agency and advisory board when appointments allow the advisory board to reconvene.
Board members urged public recruitment for advisory-board service and emphasized that volunteers need not be water-system experts; staff said materials and bylaws for the Water Agency and its advisory board are available on the county website and staff can meet with interested applicants.
