Mariposa County supervisors pick new chair and vice chair, approve routine items

Supervisor Toso was elected chair of the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors for the 2026 calendar year in a voice vote after a motion from a fellow supervisor; Miles Minotry was chosen as vice chair in a separate unanimous voice vote. The reorganizational votes took place during the board’s Jan. 6 meeting.

The board approved a consent agenda that included personnel allocation adjustments, contract amendments and proclamations. Among consent items discussed were CA3, reallocating an office technician position from planning to the clerk of the board, and CA13, a fourth amendment for civil engineering services increasing a contract by $30,600. Public Works’ roadside weed-abatement agreement (CA18, not to exceed $100,000) was discussed during the consent review; Public Works Director Shannon Hansen described an opt-out form on the county roads web page and said residents who opt out are responsible for roadside vegetation on their parcel.

The board also approved routine administrative calendar items: the 2026 financial management calendar (setting deadlines for statutory and policy reports) and the board’s 2026 meeting schedule, which includes a Wednesday budget-session date on April 22. The clerk noted a typographical error in the draft meeting list that will be corrected before it is posted.

In other routine business the board: accepted the resignations of two Water Agency Advisory Board members (Art Baggett and Michael Martin) and noted there are currently five vacancies on that advisory board; confirmed a slate of agency and committee representatives for 2026; and directed staff to return with a formal dissolution of an inactive ADA citizen advisory committee at a later meeting.

All of the organizational and routine items described above were carried by voice vote and recorded as passed unanimously unless otherwise noted.
