Council approves FY25–26 community services grant awards; committee reserves funds for emergent needs

The city council on Sept. 8 approved the finance committee’s funding recommendations for the Fiscal Year 2025–26 Community Services Support Grant (CSSG) program. The program received 18 applications with total requests of about $321,676; the committee recommended awarding roughly $136,500 to 10 applicants and setting aside approximately $13,500 for emergent needs during the fiscal year.
Staff explained the committee considered alignment with council goals, emerging needs, program costs, prior awards and applicants’ other funding sources when making recommendations. The committee said it wanted to retain a small contingency to respond quickly to emergent needs, noting the recent community circumstances prompting flexible support. Council members asked whether awards to regional organizations (for example, Hospice of Santa Barbara and United Boys & Girls Club) would be restricted to serve Carpinteria residents; staff said narratives and award agreements would clarify the local use and that standard grant agreements require recipients to use funds as represented in their applications.
Staff said they will execute agreements and aim to issue payments shortly after approval, with October identified as the target month for dispersal. Council approved the recommendations and directed staff to ensure award agreements contain language aligning use of funds with the Carpinteria‑specific services described in the applications.
