West Valley City honors nine recipients with 'Essential Peace' awards

West Valley City recognized nine individuals and organizations Wednesday as part of its second annual "Essential Peace" awards, honoring volunteers and groups for community service and civic engagement.
Craig Thomas, the city’s community engagement and culture director, led the presentation and described recipients’ contributions. He cited Pastor Moreno for interfaith leadership and help with the My Hometown Christmas program; Lindsay Scribe for neighborhood-watch and Wheatland Park organizing; Jonathan Tuttle for more than a decade of education service at Granite Technical Institute and support for Tree City USA efforts; Brooke for youth leadership; Clover for long service on the planning commission and as youth council adviser; Brian Blank for leading the Clean and Beautiful Committee; Irma Hoffer for cultural programming at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center and Dia de los Muertos education; and representatives David Dibble and Buddy Reiser on behalf of Old Dominion Freight for sustained support of the Giving Tree.
Thomas noted the award program is in its second year and invited residents to nominate future recipients via email. The council handed out certificates and invited recipients forward for a group photo.
The recognition ceremony preceded the council’s business and was followed by a public comment period and the budget hearing.
