West Valley City Council unanimously approves second-quarter FY2025–26 budget amendment

The West Valley City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to adopt ordinance 25-40, reopening and amending the city's fiscal year 2025–26 operating budget. The council approved the measure after a public hearing and a brief public comment period.
Mayor Lang opened the hearing, saying the budget opening is a routine, periodic adjustment “to maintain regular and orderly operations and keep us in compliance with state laws.” Resident Jim Visock praised the budget documents and staff presentation, saying the materials now include an executive summary that makes transfers and grant-related adjustments easier to understand.
Council discussion was brief. A council member moved to approve ordinance 25-40; the motion was seconded and passed with roll-call assent from Council members Wood, Whetstone, Harmon, Heughan, Christensen, Nordfeldt and Mayor Lang.
The ordinance instructs staff to execute the transfers and other adjustments identified in the second-quarter reopening and leaves in place the city's existing budget controls and reporting obligations. No amendments to the ordinance were proposed during the meeting. The council did not direct follow-up reporting beyond the regular financial reporting schedule.
The council meeting then moved to the consent agenda for unrelated items, and the council adjourned the city portion of the meeting before convening its redevelopment and building-authority sessions.
