District 4 board to propose splitting Carterville; Lower Carterville may be renamed Brickyard

A District 4 board member said she had been asked by a Carterville representative (David Alders) to consider splitting Carterville along the Provo River Trail. The proposal would leave Upper Carterville intact and rename Lower Carterville "Brickyard," referencing the historic Provo brickyard in that area. The board member said Carterville's population (previously reported at over 9,000) is larger than other neighborhoods in the district and that splitting would create neighborhoods more similar in population and needs.
The board member said most district board members supported the concept but raised concerns about finding representatives for both new neighborhoods and balancing housing types (single-family homes vs. student apartments). She said she will present the proposal to Provo City Council on Dec. 16 and invited residents to provide support or concerns prior to that date.
