Region 3 field engineer Jeffrey Hoffman opened the awards ceremony and noted a record number of nominations. "This year, we received a record number of awards nominations," Hoffman said, explaining the ceremony would show nominees on screens to keep the program moving.
Among the winners, UDOT honored the US‑189 Canyon Road and University Avenue intersection realignment in Provo for improving pedestrian safety near the former Provo High School and Brigham Young University. Hoffman said the project redesigned roadway geometry, adjusted signal timing to accommodate higher pedestrian volumes, and added painted bicycle lanes to emphasize driveway conflict points, steps the department described as reducing vehicle‑pedestrian conflict and improving visibility for students, faculty and neighborhood residents.
