Architect outlines early concept to replace MTC cafeteria and administration building; neighbors ask about trees and seismic standards

Andrew Feinberg, an architect with ZGF Architects, gave a short, informational presentation on proposed rebuilds at the MTC campus targeting the S1 building (currently cafeteria and some administration) and a new administration building (T2). Feinberg said the project is in a very early concept phase, that the S1 cafeteria would remain operational while half is demolished to build the new cafeteria and then the rest would be removed, and that the administration building would be built adjacent and connected by an arcade.
Residents asked whether mature trees would be removed; Feinberg said the intent is to retain as many of the mature trees that buffer 900 East as possible and that some earlier temporary landscaping (an oval) from past phases will be replaced as part of the next phase. Feinberg also said the new buildings will be designed to current seismic codes and that the team intends to include energy‑saving features similar to prior campus buildings.
Feinberg limited his remarks to a few slides and invited further questions from attendees and future neighborhood briefings as the concept develops. No formal application had been submitted to staff at the time of the presentation.
