West Valley City Council approves Metro Fire interlocal, pool repairs, SR-201 bike/ped improvements and land purchase for Fire Station 75

The West Valley City Council voted unanimously to approve several resolutions and consent items at its meeting. The council approved Resolution 25-39 to reestablish the Metro Fire interlocal agency, with minor changes to the budget process and an operations committee composed of Bluffdale, Draper, Murray, Sandy, South Jordan, South Salt Lake, West Jordan and West Valley City. The measure passed on a council motion and second and carried unanimously.
Council adopted Resolution 25-40 to repair two sand filters at Centennial Park after staff reported that a cracked filter could force the health department to close the pool. The total cost is about $260,000 and will be covered from a combination of the existing budget and the capital improvement program (CIP). The council moved and seconded the resolution and voted to approve it unanimously.
On Resolution 25-41, council members approved a collaboration with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Salt Lake City to add pedestrian and bicycle improvements to the State Road 201 rehabilitation over 3200 West. UDOT will contribute $1,000,000; West Valley City and Salt Lake City will each contribute $100,000 from transportation funds. The resolution passed unanimously after a motion and second.
The consent agenda included two items: a standard right-of-way purchase agreement and deed, and the appointment of Pauline Madaghi to the Planning Commission. The council voted to approve both items together.
Under new business, the council adopted Resolution 25-44 authorizing the purchase of land at 3641 South 2200 West for the potential renovation of Fire Station 75. The total purchase price is $950,000 to be paid from the CIP. The council moved, seconded and approved the purchase unanimously.
All recorded motions in this meeting passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned and the council announced its next meeting on April 8.
