CalSTA highlights Active Transportation funding boost while accepting Circulate San Diego's Walk the Walk Award

A representative of the California State Transportation Agency accepted the Walk the Walk Award at Circulate San Diego's Momentum Awards and used the occasion to highlight recent agency efforts to expand walking, biking and public transit.

The speaker said the award belongs to the agency's entire team and noted that Caltrans "has significantly boosted funding and support for the Active Transportation Program, also known as ATP," which the speaker said is "enhancing safety and mobility for non motorized users." The speaker specifically thanked Caltrans District 11 for its role in that work.

CalSTA's representative framed the agency's work around four priorities—equity, safety, climate action and economic prosperity—saying staff implement street-safety and public-transportation projects in line with those goals. "Action is what matters," the speaker said, quoting Carl Jung: "You are what you do, not what you say you will do."

The remarks also referenced expanding transit accessibility and helping children walk and bike, and praised local advocates and Circulate San Diego for organizing the event. The speaker noted the agency comprises eight departments, boards and commissions and described the award as recognition of collective effort.

The speaker concluded by thanking Circulate San Diego and attendees for their work and support. No policy decisions, motions, or funding amounts beyond the general statement about increased ATP support were announced during the remarks.
