Fire chief presents 2025 report: increased call volumes, no fire fatalities

The Fire Chief presented the department's 2025 annual report and a 2025 fire-station location analysis on Feb. 16.
Key figures: the department recorded roughly 10,462 total responses in 2025 (an average of about 28.5 calls per day), with approximately 68% of calls classified as emergency medical service (EMS) incidents and about 3,323 fire-related responses. Staff reported a travel-time goal of four minutes to incidents 90% of the time for engine companies; the department's analysis shows response-time pressure as the city grows. The chief reported 98 structure fires in 2025; staff said the total property value involved in those structure fires was estimated at about $106 million and reported fire-damage loss around $1.7 million. The department reported no fire fatalities in 2025.
The chief outlined training and prevention work: the department logged roughly 28,558 in-service training hours in 2025, completed more than 2,100 fire inspections, performed about 370 plan reviews and continued community risk-reduction outreach, smoke-alarm installations and public education. Staff also presented a fire-station location study that identifies gaps in coverage and recommends planning for additional facilities, equipment and staffing to restore travel-time performance.
The chief asked the council to review the strategic plan and to expect a return presentation in April with an implementation guide.
