Ernest Davis, a representative of the nonprofit Mantle Center, asked the Village of Lincoln Heights on April 28 to support an Interact for Health grant application that would create or formalize a "quality of life" or health committee for the village.
Davis said Mantle Center has worked in nearby neighborhoods and seeks to expand into Lincoln Heights, partnering in the grant with three other communities. "We would like to go to Interact for Health and say we'd like to develop these opportunities for standardized health conversations within the community councils," Davis said, describing health broadly to include physical, mental and financial health. He asked council to consider providing a letter of support to accompany the grant application in May, and offered to leave a document with contact information for follow‑up.
Council members asked whether the village's commitment would be limited to a letter of support and whether the committee would be ad hoc or standing. Davis said that the village could repurpose an existing subgroup (for example a parks or recreation subcommittee) or establish a standing committee focused on health. The council agreed to refer the request to the interim manager and appropriate staff so Mantle Center could be connected to the village's committees and receive follow‑up information.
