Council deadlocks over call to have sheriff re‑review Feb. 7 incident; suspension fails
Summary
Council debated a resolution directing the village manager to ask the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office to re‑review evidence from the Feb. 7 incident (described in debate as a neo‑Nazi demonstration); a motion to suspend rules to adopt immediately failed and a referral to the law committee produced a tie vote.

A council proposal that would have directed the village manager to instruct the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to review all available evidence from the Feb. 7, 2025 incident in Lincoln Heights and issue citations where warranted stalled after heated debate on Monday.
Councilmember Durrance Daniels and others described video evidence they said showed demonstrators threatening officers and brandishing a firearm. One sponsor summarized the resolution as directing the manager to ask the sheriff to "review all available evidence from the 02/07/2025 incidents in Lincoln Heights and to issue citations or charges for any violations of law or ordinances." (as read in council.)
Council took a procedural vote to suspend the rules and adopt the resolution immediately; the suspension required five affirmative votes and failed with three ayes, two nays and one abstention. Members then debated whether to send the matter to the law and safety committee for further review; a motion to refer also produced a 3–3 tie and did not carry. Several council members said they had not received any detailed investigative materials or video from the sheriff’s office and asked that committee review include the county report (if it exists) and any interview records.
What remains unresolved: Council did not adopt the resolution on Monday. Members agreed to address the matter at the next council meeting and said the law committee should review any existing sheriff materials, interview records and video before a final decision.
Key claims and status: During discussion, council members described a "neo‑Nazi" demonstration on Feb. 7 that included threats against residents and officers and use of racial slurs; sponsors asked the sheriff to examine video and evidence. The existence and completeness of a sheriff's report was disputed in council; that question remains unresolved pending committee follow‑up.
