Board approves Carver Heights restart application for five-year renewal

The board approved the Carver Heights Elementary restart application (agenda item GG), which the Curriculum & Instruction Committee unanimously recommended to the full board.
Committee representatives said the restart application is a new submission with elements added from lessons learned at Goldsboro High School’s restart, and the renewed authorization would extend restart work for an additional five years. A staff presenter said Carver Heights’ current authorization ends this year; the new application seeks to continue the restart model.
The committee also presented related purchase orders and contracts to support career and technical education, a contract revision to decrease a teacher assignment from two to one for the second semester, and an MOU supporting a summer pre-apprenticeship; the committee recommended those items to the full board and the board approved the purchase orders and related items on consent.
The board approved the Carver Heights restart application by voice/hand vote after committee presentation and brief questions.
