The board reviewed multiple Facilities Committee recommendations, including a property sale offer, athletic field renovations and intergovernmental transfers.
Tommy Sanders, chair of the Facilities Committee, summarized the committee’s Jan. 20 meeting and presented motions approved in committee: an offer to purchase property located on Holly Street, renovation work on the Wayne School of Engineering and Goldsboro High School soccer field (projected cost not to exceed $86,565), a proposed Roseway Elementary transfer to the county with an amended funding agreement (subject to legal review and bid finalization), and three purchase orders for chillers funded from public school building renovation and repair funds.
Board members discussed whether the Holly Street sale required a negotiated-advertisement/upset-bid step and whether a resolution should be drafted. Facilities staff clarified the board previously authorized sale via negotiated offer and that accepting the $2,000 offer would begin the two-week advertisement/upset-bid process; if there are no upset bids, the matter will return to the board for final approval in March. The board voted to accept the $2,000 offer to start the process.
The board approved the soccer field renovations (not to exceed $86,565) on committee recommendation. The Roseway Elementary transfer and amended funding were approved by the board pending final legal review and final bid numbers; several members recommended passing the item subject to legal review because figures may change based on bids.
Facilities items and the acceptance of the Holly Street negotiated offer will be processed through the usual procurement and advertisement steps before final execution.
