The Board of Education of Wayne County Public Schools accepted a proclamation honoring the WISH Center program and declared February 2026 School-Based Health Care Awareness Month.
The proclamation (read into the record and signed by Chairman Willie R. Joyner) said the WISH Centers have grown from two to seven schools over 25 years and provide comprehensive medical, nutritional, behavioral and preventive services to about 4,100 students annually. It lists staffing at the centers — six full-time registered nurses, six office assistants and two floating nurse practitioners — and notes services such as in-school physical exams, adolescent health screens, behavioral-health visits and nutritional assessments.
Board members voted to adopt the proclamation by voice and hand vote after a motion and second. A board member praised the district’s increase in credentials and tied school health services to supporting student attendance and instructional time. The board called on school administrators, teachers, students and citizens to recognize and support school-based health services.
The board did not record a roll-call tally for the proclamation in the transcript; the item was accepted after members raised hands in favor. The proclamation text in the record identifies the body as the Board of Education of Wayne County Public Schools and is dated February 2026.
The board moved on to other business after brief comments of thanks to WISH Center staff and program partners.
