Summary
The board approved a draft resolution asking the state legislature to authorize a local-option sales tax; commissioners requested small textual corrections and directed staff to prepare the required justification materials for submission to legislators.
Sherburne County commissioners on Feb. 17 approved a draft resolution asking the Minnesota Legislature for authorization to impose a local-option sales tax, with minor technical corrections and a required justification packet.
Commissioner (speaker 3) presented a draft and asked for three corrections: fix the statutory two-year implementation language in subitem 7, correct the adoption date line to Feb. 17, and add reference to a 2022 Minnesota Department of Corrections inspection report in the whereas clauses to strengthen the justification. He said he would contact representatives and prepare the justification materials and letter for submission within 24 hours.
The board adopted the amended resolution (listed in meeting materials as draft resolution 02026-ADD-3173) by voice vote. Staff and the sponsor said they will also assemble a regional justification packet (including Stearns County materials) required by the legislature for consideration.
