County approves resolution to abate three unsafe structures on 107th Avenue SE

Sherburne County commissioners voted Feb. 17 to adopt a resolution (021726-ADD-3266) ordering abatement of three unsafe structures at 6836 107th Avenue Southeast (PID 20-00402-0315).
Code enforcement officer Doug described the buildings as vacant, unsecured, and structurally deficient with broken or missing windows and animal access. He said the properties meet the Minnesota State Building Code’s criteria for public nuisances and cited Minnesota statute sections 463.15 to 463.26 as the legal authority for repair, rehabilitation, demolition or removal.
Doug told the board staff would first attempt to work with the property owner; if that effort is unsuccessful the county would proceed with abatement and assess costs to the property tax parcel. He estimated the timeline for abatement at roughly two to three months, depending on the chosen enforcement avenue and owner response. The board adopted the resolution on a voice vote; commissioners characterized abatement as a public-safety and neighborhood-quality matter.
