District reports recycling, hazardous-materials and landfill operations; treatment plant valve expected to restore service next week

Recycling and landfill staff updated the board on operations, winter impacts and equipment repairs at the Feb. 12 meeting.
Recycling/reuse coordinator Joey Long said most Green Business Network contracts for 2026 have been returned and staff are reaching out to small businesses to expand participation. Long reported seasonal problems at rural recycling centers where extreme cold is freezing compactor hydraulic components; staff are working with communities to manage service interruptions.
Environment and landfill supervisor Paulson said he worked with a technician to secure a temporary replacement valve to allow the treatment plant to begin treating water next week rather than continuing to haul. Paulson said a permanent replacement valve is on order from a supplier in Minneapolis and its arrival is awaited. He also noted 17 new environmental compliance cases for January (year-to-date reflects one month). Board members acknowledged the weather-related challenges and thanked staff for maintaining operations through the cold.
The board had no public comments on operations and adjourned after recognizing staff efforts.
