City highlights holiday events and reports $9,450.47 raised for United Way Kaw Valley

The City Manager listed events open to the public: Miracle on Kansas Avenue parade on Dec. 6 with a tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.; an ADA celebration on Dec. 4 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the public library; and the Human Relations Commission’s holiday Posada on Dec. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 811 Southwest Buchanan Street. The city also noted the 58th annual community Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Exhibition Hall (the mayor later referenced welcoming guests at the Stormont Vail Event Center for the community dinner).
On fundraising, the City Manager said the city's OSNAP campaign — run with the United Way of Kaw Valley and community stakeholders — collected $9,450.47 via in-person and online contributions. He thanked firefighters, the Office of Inclusive Communities and volunteers for collecting donations and said United Way Kaw Valley will distribute the funds to help address food insecurity across local stakeholders.
The mayor also encouraged residents to give to the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign and thanked community volunteers who support local service providers.
