Council removes outdated appointment language for Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging

The Topeka City Council approved an ordinance on Jan. 13 to remove municipal‑code language that previously required the mayor to appoint two members to the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging. Senior counsel Brandon Roy Botman explained the agency amended its bylaws so the mayor no longer appoints members, making the municipal language obsolete.
Botman said staff requested the code change to align municipal text with the agency's bylaws. With no questions from council, Council member Kell moved the ordinance and Council member Bradbury seconded; the council recorded a favorable vote (motion carried).
