Rick Pena, a Wichita Police Department public information officer, summarized a multi‑agency response connected to a follow-up on a drive‑by shooting.
Pena said officers located a suspect vehicle during follow-up work. One occupant exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. The driver fled and the on-scene pursuit was terminated for safety; at that point, the Kansas Highway Patrol Air Support Unit took over tracking the vehicle. Pena said the fleeing driver later left the vehicle and fled on foot; a Wichita Police canine, Dingo, tracked and helped locate the suspect. Officers recovered two handguns from the vehicle and, with multiagency assistance, multiple suspects were taken into custody.
"This case demonstrates the relentless dedication of our officers and the value of collaboration," Pena said, and he added the recovery of dangerous weapons removed a threat from the streets. Pena closed by noting the investigation will continue.
No arrests names, charges or next-court dates were announced in the briefing.
