Senate dispenses with journal, refers bills to committees and adjourns until Jan. 30

The Senate convened Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, dispensed with the reading of the previous day's journal, referred several measures to committee and adjourned until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30.

Senator Rucelli moved that “the reading of the journal be dispensed with and the journal on the previous day's business be approved.” The presiding speaker responded, “Hearing no objections, so ordered,” and the journal was approved without recorded roll-call vote.

Under reports of standing committees the secretary read entries for Thursday, Jan. 29 (the eighteenth legislative day), including “Senate Bill 5,395, bridal authorization,” which the secretary announced was being referred to the committee on rules. Later, under introductions and first reading, the secretary read “Senate Bill 6328 by Senator Saldana,” which was referred to the committee on transportation. Both referrals were moved and approved without objection.

Senator Richeli moved that the measures on the reports of standing committees be referred to the committees as designated; Senator Richelli moved the Senate advance to the fifth order of business; and Senator Rocelli moved that the measures on the introductions and referrals report be referred to the committees as designated. Each motion was called and ordered with no recorded objections.

Senator Rocelli moved that the Senate adjourn until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 (the nineteenth legislative day). With no objection, the presiding speaker declared the Senate adjourned.

The session was procedural: motions to advance the agenda, formal referrals of bills to committee and an agreed adjournment. No roll-call votes, amendments or substantive floor debate appear in the record from this brief session.
