Washington Senate adopts resolution congratulating Seattle Seahawks on championship season

The Washington State Senate on Feb. 8 adopted Senate Resolution 8,683 honoring the Seattle Seahawks for their 2025 NFC West division title, NFC championship and victory in Super Bowl 60.

Senator Torres, sponsor of the resolution, told colleagues he was “proud to sponsor a resolution honoring the Seattle Seahawks for one of the most remarkable seasons in Washington state history,” and highlighted quarterback Sam Darnold’s leadership and the team’s 14–3 regular-season record. The resolution, read into the record by the secretary, lists individual accomplishments — including Kenneth Walker III’s Super Bowl MVP performance and multiple Pro Bowl selections — and commends the organization’s community work.

Senators from across the state rose to endorse the resolution. Senator Lovellette pointed to Anacortes’ historical connection to the “Seahawks” name; Senator McKeown and others framed the team’s collective performance under coach Mike McDonald as an example of leadership and teamwork. Senator Kaufman noted cultural history around the team logo and its return to the Burke Museum.

After remarks from members the President called for the question. The resolution was adopted by voice vote and the President announced, “The resolution is adopted.” Following passage, the President introduced former Seahawks wide receiver and current play-by-play announcer Steve Bridal and team representatives Mike Flood, vice president of outreach and external affairs, and Drew Johnston, managing director of government affairs and compliance, who joined the rostrum. Bridal delivered a brief, theatrical touchdown call; the Senate recessed briefly for photographs at the rostrum.

The resolution directs that copies be transmitted to the Seattle Seahawks as an expression of the Senate’s recognition and appreciation on behalf of the people of Washington.
