The Wichita Police Department described a recent stolen-vehicle investigation during the mayor’s briefing in which technology and coordinated response led to two arrests, officials said.
"Officers were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle with 2 armed suspects when Flock Technology alerted them to its location," the department's public-information remarks said. Officers pursued the vehicle, the suspects crashed and fled on foot, and a K-9 located one suspect hiding behind a dumpster. The second suspect was located and taken into custody after officers deployed a drone to guide them to his hiding spot. The investigation led to the recovery of three firearms and two arrests, officials said.
Officer Rekania (public information officer) presented the update and framed the case as an example of "teamwork, technology, and dedication, keeping Wichita safe." The briefing included a short video clip showing officers and a drone in the response.
The briefing provided no further prosecutorial or court information about charges, arraignments or evidence beyond the on-scene recovery and arrests. No vote or formal city action was reported during this segment.
