Logan Wright, representing the Red Cross, urged Wichita residents to give blood or plasma as the holidays approach and said November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Wright said donors who make a successful donation will receive a single A1C test result (one per 12-month period) and that results are available within one to two weeks via the Red Cross blood-donor app or online portal.
Wright stressed that all blood types are needed but urged especially O negative and B negative donors because of compatibility and emergency use. She described the organization as supplying roughly 40% of the nation’s blood and supporting thousands of hospitals and transfusion centers. Wright also promoted the permanent Red Cross donation center at 707 North Main in Wichita and invited residents to a trunk-or-treat at that site on Oct. 24 from 4–7 p.m.
Wright encouraged donors to make appointments by phone or through the Red Cross app or redcrossblood.org and offered practical donor advice: do not fast before donating; eat a good meal and stay hydrated. The briefing did not include financial details about operating costs or specific local funding sources for the donation center.
