Rebecca Johnson of the Office of Community Services told the council the $300,000 allocation was designated by the design council during CIP approval and will be incorporated into the architect’s addendum to identify and site public artwork throughout the facility. She said exact placement has not been finalized but the funds will buy multiple pieces to be integrated into the building.
Council members compared the art allocation to the Brewer Center in District 1, which was reported to have $200,000 in public art, and staff confirmed the Brewer Center total project cost was roughly $10 million after earlier construction‑cost adjustments.
Council voted to adopt the amending resolution and authorize signatures (motion passed 7-0). No public comment was taken on the item during the workshop; staff noted the Plainview construction schedule targets a September–October 2026 start with completion in 2027.
