City preview: East Douglas Street proposal to come before council Dec. 16

The City of Wichita will present an East Douglas Street improvement proposal to the City Council at its Tuesday, Dec. 16 meeting, the mayor said at the Dec. 4 briefing.
The mayor said the District 1 advisory board reviewed the proposal and approved it "with the addition of bike lanes and parallel parking." The council will have the opportunity to vote to approve or deny the project at the Dec. 16 meeting.
The mayor also provided a broader streets update: Bleckley Street has lane reductions between Lewis and Kellogg and is closed between Lewis and Waterman; Lewis Street from Oliver to Bleckley is restricted to local traffic; Hydraulic Avenue is closed north of 37th Street North and south of East 45th Street North with detours via 37th, Hillside and 45th; Kellogg Drive and Market Street are reduced to one lane in each direction for brick crosswalk repair. The mayor emphasized that the state of Kansas is responsible for maintaining Kellogg.
Residents seeking updates and maps for street projects were directed to wichita.gov/streets. No vote outcome was reported at the briefing; the council’s formal consideration is scheduled for Dec. 16.
