Dalton Christopher Glasscock was sworn in Tuesday as vice mayor of the City of Wichita, reciting the oath to "uphold the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Kansas" and pledging to "faithfully discharge the duties of the vice mayor for the city of Wichita, Kansas." Chief administrative judge Jones administered the oath.
Glasscock thanked family, friends, the mayor and his council colleagues for their trust and framed his brief remarks around the city's history. Quoting early Wichita founder J.R. Mead, he said "Cities are not the result of chance...Their prosperity and greatness are in large measure due to the sagacity and enterprise of their founders," and called for "choosing reform over retreat" while urging residents to invest in the city's future: "Let's get to work."
Before the oath, the council thanked outgoing vice mayor JV Johnston for his 2025 service. Mayor and council members offered brief tributes recognizing Johnston's time in the role and presented him with a commemorative "Keeper of the Plains" as a token of appreciation. The swearing-in and short remarks were followed by regular council business.
The oath and comments were ceremonial; there was no formal council action required to install Glasscock beyond the administration of the oath and the council's recognition of Johnston.
