City officials and Visit Wichita on Jan. 6 launched local programming tied to America’s 250th anniversary and unveiled the official Wichita 2 50 logo and a companion website meant to coordinate events across the year.
Jamelle Holoparek of Visit Wichita said a Local America 2 50 committee of more than a dozen community leaders, organizations and partners will help ensure the celebrations are community-driven. “We are excited this morning to roll out the official 2 50 logo for Wichita,” Holoparek said during the mayor’s briefing.
Organizers launched wichita250.com as the central hub where residents and visitors can find scheduled events and submit America 2 50–themed activities for inclusion. Holoparek also described a planned civic passport experience with chances to win official America 2 50 merchandise and encouraged sharing on social media using the hashtag “Wichita 2 50.”
Becky Miranda, director of operations and events for River Festival, said River Festival will integrate the America 2 50 branding across events — including a Jan. 4 poster unveiling, fireworks and a performance by Wichita Grand Opera — and noted the festival will hand out a commemorative coin designed by a student on May 31.
The mayor thanked Visit Wichita and community partners and invited residents to participate in and submit events via wichita250.com.
Organizers said the website and committee will continue to update programming and outreach as the year progresses.
